Sidewalk Sale FAQs:

Do I need to get a permit from the city and how much does it cost to participate?

You do NOT need a permit. Participation is FREE in our sidewalk sale. BANA covers the usual garage sale fee with a neighborhood-wide sale permit.

I have items to sell, but I’m not able to take part. May I donate items to BANA to sell?

Yes! Please contact Chris White (thechriswhitestudio@gmail.com or 518-598-8231) to schedule a pickup.

Do I have to sell on both Saturday and Sunday?

No. Though we anticipate we will have shoppers both days, depending on weather.

What time should I expect shoppers?

Shoppers come early, so please be prepared for early birds looking to get ahead of the crowd.

Will you cancel if it rains?

Very likely not. The sale permit and advertising costs (covered by BANA) are non-refundable purchases. If there is an extraordinary weather event (i.e. severe thunderstorms) we will post updates on the BANA website (banaschenectady.org) and try to call every person taking part.

How are you advertising and do I need to pay for advertising?

Based on last year’s successful event, we will list the sale on social media, online sale websites and in the newspaper.

Where can shoppers get maps of the homes participating?

We have an information tent at 1075 Waverly Place and will be passing out maps. In addition, we’ll make them available on this site and on social media leading up to the events.

What may I sell? Are there any minimum number of items or restrictions?

You are responsible for the items you sell at your home and, based on past sales, higher quality items in a wide price range are much more likely to sell.

Do I have to be a member of BANA to participate?

You should join! We would love it if you joined, but you are not required to be a member. You must, however, be within the BANA neighborhood to be covered by our permit.
